Works In Progress

In September 2017, I sold two nonfiction books to Random House. One is about the history and legacy of the Battle of Blair Mountain; the other is an essay collection. Here’s the announcement from Publishers Marketplace:

University of Montana MFA graduate, Best American Essays 2017 writer and producer of public radio documentaries Catherine Venable Moore’s two works of narrative non-fiction set in Appalachia, exploring events in the past of America and of that region, from the violent West Virginia Mine Wars and the Battle of Blair Mountain in 1921, up to the politics of today, to Kate Medina at Random House, in a pre-empt, by Meredith Kaffel Simonoff at DeFiore and Company (World English). 1. I just read your essay in the 2017 Best American Essays for the second time. The first time was when the book was first made available. What a great voice and narrative. I would enjoy reading more of Catherine Venable Moore’s work if that’s possible. Please direct me as to where I can purchase other works. Couldn’t find her books at Barnes and Noble.

    A sincere admirer

      Hi Ronald –

So kind of you to reach out, and sorry it took me a moment to get back to you – I just now saw your comment! Thank you for reading my work. I’m going to be publishing my first book in 2021 (it doesn’t even have its official title yet) so you haven’t missed anything! In the mean time you might like to check out another essay I wrote for Oxford American, “O Beulah Land” — https://www.oxfordamerican.org/magazine/item/351-o-beulah-land

      Thanks for reading!
      Catherine
